is a Japanese restaurant, featuring traditional Japanese

Starters here include pan-fried dumplings and deep-fried king
prawns in breadcrumbs, as well as great tempura dishes and
wholesome broths. For a main course there’s the sushi or
sashimi options or teppanyaki seafood and meat dishes. The
service here is particular good making for a relaxed and
welcoming atmosphere.
Rupali

is legendary in its own right in Newcastle and Rupali is
certainly no exception. This well-known and much loved Indian
restaurant has an excellent reputation for serving up good
quality curries at down to earth prices. It is especially
popular with the post pub crowd looking to dine after a night
out on the town.
Mangos

is a popular dim sum and Cantonese restaurant located on
Stowell Street. For the best value and a balanced choice of
dishes from across the menu, go for one of their Lotus banquet
options priced at £12.50 per person, or one of their more
exotic set menu priced up to £28 per person. Alternatively
dine Sunday to Friday before 8.30 and two courses will set you
back just £8.50. Particularly good dishes here include the
sizzling chicken in Cantonese sauce or the king prawns with
ginger and spring onion.
Big
Mussel
15 The Side, Quayside, Newcastle (0191 232 1057) This
light and airy modern restaurant specialises in fine seafood,
including their speciality dish, mussels. The restaurant is
situated by Newcastle’s quayside and the Big Mussel boasts
great views out over the water. Inside the décor is all bare
wooden floors and bare wooden tables, giving a relaxed and
informal dining experience, where the food is most certainly
the star attraction.
La Piazza Pizzeria
592 Durham Road, Low Fell, Gateshead (0191 487 5810) This
lively and spacious Italian restaurant is known for its good
food at sensible prices and great atmosphere. The menu
features all the classic pizza and pasta dishes you would
expect, but there’s also a tempting choice of exotic
chicken, fish and meat dishes too. However, it’s pizza that
many of the regulars return for time and time again, with just
about every topping available and the size of the pizzas are
pretty impressive too.
