Osbornes Bar 61-67 Osbornes Road, Jesmond, Newcastle (0191 281 4961) This trendy bar is located in the New Northumbria hotel and whether or not you are a hotel guest there it’s worth a visit. The slick modern design succeeds in attracting a suitably trendy crowd. There’s a great range of beers, spirits and fine wines on offer too, but what they really excel at in Osbornes bar are first class cocktails.

The Old George

As one of the oldest pubs in the city and originally an old coaching in, The Old George enjoys a good regular trade. This attractive looking pub is located down a narrow alley within the wild party loving Bigg Market area. However, The Old George is known for offering a slightly more laidback atmosphere than most of its neighbouring pubs, although having said that they often have live DJ’s playing at the weekend.

Huxters 
10 Northumberland Road, Newcastle (0191 2325231) Huxters is a sports theme bar boasting a vast screen dedicated to featuring all the latest live sporting events. It’s therefore usual to see the place packed out on the day of a particularly important football or rugby match. It’s certainly not the place to simply enjoy a quite pint or two and a decent conversation, but if you love your sport this is the bar for you. There’s also a good range of food on offer served throughout the day up until 7pm.

The Union Rooms

Situated opposite Newcastle Central Station is The Union Rooms, a very busy Wetherspoon’s pub. The pub building is a listed one giving the place a real sense of atmosphere and customers have a choice of three different drinking areas. The usual attractions of any Wetherspoon’s pub including good value drinks and food apply to The Union Rooms too so the place is never short of customers.

Casa
Watergate Building, Sandhill, Quayside, Newcastle, NE1 3RG (0191 222 0164) Situated in the distinctive Watergate Building within Newcastle’s stylish Quayside area is a chain of the trendy bar group Casa. Here you’ll find a modern setting that attracts a young and lively crowd. The place gets really busy at weekends but at quieter times you can also enjoy a good meal here too.
